I started this journal of my cycling experiences back in 2012, and have added one or two stories each month since – including a couple of back dated write-ups. Back then we didn’t have Strava or Instagram and there were less cycling blogs available. I wanted to share something of the rides I’d done as an encouragement to my friends, as well as recording experiences I could look back on and remember.
Things have changed a lot in the intervening years; now there are hundreds of blogs. Strava and Instagram allow everyone to create mini-stories of their adventures and Relive lets people share a video-map of where they’ve travelled. Many more people are using GoPro or other devices to film themselves… and drones add a third-party view: there is so much more information about cyclists and cycling than there used to be.
My journal continues to be a personal reflection on my experiences; something I look back on and enjoy. I’m learning to write creatively too, which is something I didn’t understand in the beginning. I’m no Ernest Hemingway, but I try to write in a way which brings together my Christian faith, my life as a Priest, and my experience of cycling. I hope to continue to learn and improve while conveying these experiences via this electronic journal.
I hope you enjoy these stories.
Every blessing, Graeme.
